MUST BE competent & comfortable looking after high risk, MgSO4 infusions. IDDM, placenta Previa, maternal cardiac hx, twins, lupus. C-Sections, tubal ligations, D&C, post amnio. Level III NICU/ NICU nurses will attend high risk births Cesarean Section = 28% tEpidural = 90-95% Average length of patient stay: Vag delivery – 2 days C section – 3 or 4 days • RN’s circulate in OR but do not scrub • MUST BE AUTONOMOUS & ABLE TO DO VAG EXAMS • GOOD FETAL HEART MONITORING SKILLS • OK WITH HIGH RISK Advanced Practice on the unit: 3 – Nurse Midwives 24 hour in house Anesthesia & Pediatrician. Neonatologists present 7 days a week, on-call 24 hours/day.
