Although salaries are generally consistent with the region, nurses can benefit from a less competitive job market in this area. The climate in San Luis Obispo is also mild and pleasant year-round, and the community thrives on its outdoor lifestyle with plenty of hiking trails, wineries, and local festivals that enhance overall quality of life.

Bakersfield, while inland and typically more affordable than Oxnard, still provides solid opportunities for NICU nurses. The cost of living is significantly lower, allowing nurses to enjoy larger living spaces and more affordable housing options. While the pay scale may be a bit lower than that found in coastal cities, the balanced lifestyle, including access to parks and recreational areas, helps offset lower salaries. Bakersfield’s climate tends to be hotter, especially in summer, but the city has many family-friendly activities, music festivals, and a burgeoning culinary scene that can appeal to a variety of lifestyles.

Lastly, Fresno stands out as an option for NICU Registered Nurses seeking a more budget-friendly alternative, coupled with reasonable job opportunities. The housing market here is quite affordable, allowing for spacious accommodations at lower prices relative to Oxnard. Salary ranges for nurses can vary, but overall, healthcare positions are growing in the area. Fresno features a diverse cultural landscape, including an array of dining experiences and proximity to beautiful parks and outdoor activities, like those found in nearby national forests. While the climate can get quite hot, residents enjoy a slower pace of life that embraces both community and culture.
