he Children’s Hospital Float Pool (CHFP) consists of nurses trained to work in all Pediatric areas of the hospital including the Neonatal ICU (NICU), Pediatric ICU (PICU), General Pediatric floors and the Pediatric Emergency Department. There are no beds/exam rooms associated with the CHFP structure. At the beginning of their shift, CHFP RNs receive their assignment from the Centralized Nursing Staffing Office or CHFP Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager. The assignments may be changed based on patient/staffing needs. CHFP nurses care for patients 0-21 years of age experiencing, but not limited to, prematurity, respiratory illness, trauma, sepsis, surgical interventions, neurological disorders, complex medical/surgical needs and diabetic ketoacidosis.
