The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery by the health care team. The RN promotes safe passage for their patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient’s condition and the competencies of the employee.RN job is to be used for RNs in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24X7 staffing which include those departments with on-call staffing on the off shifts. Job Summary: Antepartum: -Assess all triage patients >20 weeks. -Use obstetric triage acuity tools. -Labor assessment and evaluation. -Fetal evaluation and assessment. -Evaluation for labor at term, PTL signs, s/s of preeclampsia, rupture of membranes, decreased fetal movement, preterm premature rupture of membranes, vaginal bleeding, acute and critical conditions, such as MVA, large abruptio placentae. -If emergency medical condition is determined to exist, must stabilize the patient for delivery or transfer to higher level of care if needed. Intrapartum: -Labor assessment, evaluation, and care. -Fetal evaluation and assessment. -Preparation of expectant mother for safe delivery. -Administration of medications including but not limited to: Pitocin, misoprostol, methergine, hemabate, mag sulfate, terbutaline, labetalol, nifedipine, hydralazine, insulin. -Immediate stabilization of newborn. -Administer newborn medications. -Prep for scheduled or emergency cesarean delivery. Postpartum/Newborn: -Assessment and care of postpartum (vaginal and cesarean deliveries) and newborn patients. -Newborn care includes (but not limited to): hearing screen, assisting with laboratory draws, IV starts and care, medication administration (hep B, vit K, erythromycin, antibiotics), assist with circumcisions, care of opiate withdrawal newborns, stabilization of critically ill newborns for transport, phototherapy, hypoglycemia care.
