NSICU uses targeted temperature management and continuous renal replacement therapy. Registered nurses provide care in conjunction with the nursing assistant and our team of neurointensivists and advanced practice providers. Assignments are based on the patient’s needs, the geographical location of the patients, and the resources available. The charge nurse does not have a patient assignment. NSICU was the recipient of the Patient Choice Award for inpatient units at ECU Health in 2022 and 2023 for our patient satisfaction scores.

24 Bed Medical Intensive Care Unit Primary Population: The MICU provides services to adult, acutely ill patients experiencing the following: Hemodynamically Instability, Respiratory Failure requiring Intubation, Pneumonia, Sepsis, Renal Failure requiring CRRT, DKA, GI Bleed, Stroke, and Infectious Diseases. Registered nurses provide care in conjunction with the care partner and medical team. The twenty four beds are divided into (3) 8 bed areas. The unit has 1-2 float nurses without patient assignments and one charge nurse without patient assignment. Skills that will be utilized are continuous infusion medication management, pain management, wound care, arterial lines, central lines, tracheotomy patients, central lines, chest tubes, mechanical ventilation, continuous cardiac monitoring, and various continuous intravenous drips.
