Weekly Pay*
The population consists of surgical oncology patients, urology, gynecological and colorectal. This includes, but is not limited to: ENT surgeries (radical neck, oral reconstruction total laryngectomy, etc.) Pancreatic/liver surgeries (Whipple surgery) Colon surgery (colectomy, ileostomy, colostomy, wound vac and wound manager) Gynecological surgery/procedures Urology procedures. Patients in this setting may require frequent neurological assessments and collaborative evaluations to manage intermediate care status. Continuity of care is facilitated in this unit through ICU transition for optimization of clinical outcomes. Registered nurses provide care in conjunction with the nursing assistant and medical team. Assignments are based on the patient’s needs, the geographical location of the patients, and the resources available. The charge nurse does not have a patient assignment. BLS is required upon hire.

Floating: Within region and scope of practice Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable Region 1 – Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH (peds only) — could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock) Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: HPB Patients – Whipples, Liver Resections, Distal Pancreas/Spleen, Pancreatitis Women’s Surgery – Hysterectomies, Mastectomies Plastic Surgery – DIEP Flap (Breast Reconstruction), Panniculectomy Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4-5 LPN (if applicable): 1:4-5 CNA: 1:10 Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver’s License and/or Insurance: RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement) Skills required: Drain Care, Central Line Management, G/J Tubes, Heparin Gtt management, Cardiac Gtt management (ACLS), cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement/management, management of various surgical drains Support within the Department: CNA Duties – able to perform blood draws, foley insertion/removal, standard patient care as assigned Charge nurse – Able to assist with patient care, med passes, & admissions; may or may not have an assignment IV/VAT Team – Available as a consult within the hospital Resource Nurse – Mentors available on night shift Telemetry monitoring/tech Technology/Equipment: EMR: Epic IV Pump: Alaris Med dispensing: Omnicell Monitors: Phillips Unit specific equipment: Bladder scanner, EKG machine, transport monitor, bedside Tele monitors in PCU rooms Patient Safety Net
