Healthcare Employment Growth Remains Robust After Record-Setting Winter
Healthcare job growth increased by a robust 35,000 in June and by 403,000 over the past 12 months, which is among the highest 12-month job growth totals on record, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The past year’s powerful job growth statistics are driven by a record-setting winter of 2018-2019, which saw nearly employment increases of nearly 50,000 in both December and March and 42,000 in January.
The December and March healthcare job-growth totals are the highest since records were first kept in 1990. The March growth was revealed in recently revised data.
Meanwhile, BLS data shows that the gap of unfilled jobs between job openings and hires continues. Data suggests that there are about a half-million unfilled jobs in the healthcare industry, with openings outpacing hires by 2 to 1.
