Healthcare Employment Ends Year on Strong Note

Employment in the healthcare industry rose by 43,200 in December 2016, the largest gain of any economic sector, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in its monthly Employment Situation Summary.
The last month of the year eclipsed the average monthly growth for 2016, which 35,000 per month. The year 2016 saw a continuation of strong job growth trend in healthcare; the average monthly employment growth in 2015 was 39,000.
Most of December’s job increases occurred in ambulatory health care services (+30,000), while hospital employment also continued to grow (+11,000).
Overall, the national unemployment rate of 4.7% remained little changed in December.
