While the cost of living is slightly above the national average, it remains reasonable for the Northeast, and diverse housing options are available, from historic homes to modern apartments. The local culture thrives with arts, music, and recreational events, fostering a lively community atmosphere, while the climate remains characteristic of New England, featuring picturesque seasons throughout the year.

A fourth city to consider is Burlington, Vermont, which is about three hours from Plymouth. Burlington has a smaller healthcare market, but L&D RNs can find solid roles at regional medical centers, often with pay rates similar to those in Plymouth due to its reputation for quality care. The cost of living may be slightly higher than Plymouth but is often balanced by the charming housing options available, including an array of quaint homes and eco-friendly developments. Burlington is known for its outdoor lifestyle set against beautiful landscapes, offering ample activities such as skiing, hiking, and waterfront recreation, contributing to an active lifestyle closely tied to nature and health.

Finally, Rochester, New York provides an interesting alternative for L&D RNs exploring options similar to Plymouth. With a growing healthcare sector, nursing pay can be quite favorable, often competitive with rates in the Plymouth area. The cost of living in Rochester is more affordable than many larger cities in the Northeast, allowing for access to a wider range of housing options, from affordable suburban homes to urban apartments. The city enjoys a diverse cultural scene, with museums, music festivals, and significant historical sites, offering residents a rich lifestyle experience. Although it experiences a more varied climate with colder winters, Rochester still provides a mix of engaging activities year-round, appealing to those who enjoy a well-rounded lifestyle.
