NewYork-Presbyterian Queens provides emergency care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to over 100,000 patients annually. The Emergency Department is staffed by highly qualified professionals who are dedicated to healing and trained to provide the best care as quickly as possible. All physicians specialize in emergency medicine and are certified in advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support, and pediatric advanced life support. Physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses specially trained in emergency medicine and trauma are skilled in identifying urgent medical conditions that require immediate intervention. Each patient is screened upon arrival and is triaged into one of four distinct separate care areas designated to treat medical conditions from minor to serious. Level 1 Trauma Center. Our Emergency Department has been designated by the New York State Department of Health as regional Level 1 Trauma Center and treats more than 1,000 adult and pediatric trauma cases each year. This designation means that a complete support staff of physicians is always available to treat life-threatening traumatic injuries, and includes specialists in surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesia, orthopaedics, vascular radiology, and others.
