How Our Employee Assistance Program Supports Nurses During the Holidays
The Holidays and Your Well-Being
As much joy as the holidays bring, filled with family, friends, and celebrations, they can also take a toll on nurses' mental and physical well-being. There can be additional stress due to family conflicts, finances, and over-committing.
Extra demands such as hosting, shopping, cooking, and cleaning can cause extra stress. The shorter days and colder weather can also contribute to feelings of anxiety and stress during the holiday season.
Fortunately, we offer benefits and resources to help nurses navigate emotions and logistics via our Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Below are some ways nurses can take advantage of the EAP to support them this holiday season.
About Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
An EAP is a network of services that can help people improve their health, achieve more at work and home, and handle any personal, legal, or financial challenges they may face. These services are confidential and offer someone to talk to and resources to consult 24/7, whenever and wherever you need them.
Below is an overview of what to expect when you use our EAP. There is always an option to chat, submit a question, and get help.
Supporting Your Well-Being During the Holidays
Emotional Well-being:
The EAP offers numerous resources to support nurses' well-being, especially their emotional well-being. Take a deep dive into these resources and you can find support on topics including ways to improve mood and increase energy, and resources surrounding mental health issues such as depression and eating disorders.
There is even a section dedicated to navigating the holiday season. This includes tips for everyone, travel tips, and tips for blended families. In case you're wondering, their biggest tip is to plan ahead to avoid stress.
The EAP also helps you find a therapist (or other mental health support) near you and within your network.
Relationships:
A helpful EAP tool is the resources surrounding relationships. The EAP has a guide about how to meet new people and make friendships, which is helpful for travel and contract nurses relocating to a new place. There are even resources for those planning a wedding, getting a divorce, and resources on how to deal with sibling rivalry. There is literally no stone left unturned.
In addition, to ensure nurses have a resource on the go, we offer nurses who work for us free access to Headspace.
Physical Health:
Learn about cancer-causing foods, restorative yoga, and much more in the fitness and physical health portion of the EAP. There are also resources about understanding your body, how to motivate yourself to get fit, and how to overcome unhealthy habits.
With AMN Healthcare, you also receive heavy discounts on memberships to 24-Hour Fitness, Lifetime Fitness, and Corepower Yoga. You can also save on physical fitness using the comprehensive benefits we provide for nurses.
Use the EAP to Help with Your Holiday Logistics
Everything gets turned upside down during the holiday season, including schedules and even where you will be staying. The EAP program helps nurses plan with reserving child and elderly care, event planning, and travel planning.
