The institution carries deep historical significance and public visibility, operating with a strong civic mandate in one of the fastest growing and most competitive healthcare markets in the country.This role calls for a visible, resilient, and highly credible leader—someone comfortable operating under scrutiny, navigating public governance, and making difficult decisions while honoring the hospital’s mission and legacy. The next CEO must be a leader who can translate internal momentum into greater community relevance, improved utilization, and disciplined execution, positioning the organization for long-term sustainability in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will lead the executive team and work closely with the Board, medical staff, Meharry Medical College, Metro Nashville leadership, and community partners to ensure high-quality care, financial stability, regulatory compliance, and mission fulfillment.The CEO will be responsible for:
  • Partner with the Board and executive leadership to shape, execute, and continuously refine a multi-year strategy aligned with the hospital’s mission, civic role, and market realities.
  • Provide executive-level oversight of hospital operations, with the ability to assess operational efficiency, clinical and non-clinical performance metrics, throughput, staffing models, and management effectiveness. Use data, benchmarks, and performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, and cost-effective care, with clear accountability for clinical outcomes, patient experience, and regulatory compliance.
  • Build a culture of performance excellence, engagement, and continuous improvement that supports long-term stability and credibility.
  • Strengthen trust-based relationships with the medical staff through consistent communication, collaboration, and shared governance.
  • Lead physician recruitment and service-line development aligned with community needs, academic priorities, and the hospital’s defined strategic role.
  • Oversee community and charity care programs, including ambulatory models and access models designed to reduce avoidable emergency department utilization and improve population health outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary external ambassador to Metro leadership, academic partners, regulators, and community stakeholders, rebuilding trust and advancing collaboration across the healthcare ecosystem.

The PositionThe President, Coastal Region is accountable for the strategic, operational, financial, and cultural performance of MaineHealth’s Coastal Region. Reporting to the MaineHealth Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the Coastal Region Board, the President will lead an integrated network of hospitals, physicians, and care teams across inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory settings.The President will partner closely with system service line leaders, medical group leadership, and fellow regional presidents to advance MaineHealth’s mission while addressing the unique needs of coastal Maine communities.Responsibilities
  • Regional Strategy & Integration: Shape and execute strategy that advances quality, access, growth, and sustainability while integrating hospitals, service lines, and the medical group.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure strong performance in quality, safety, patient experience, and day to day operations.
  • Financial Stewardship: Full accountability for operating and capital budgets; margin management and long term financial health.
  • Governance Partnership: Serve as a trusted senior leader to the Coastal Region Board and MaineHealth executive leadership.
  • Physician & Clinical Alignment: Build strong, collaborative relationships with employed and independent physicians and clinical leaders.
  • People & Culture: Recruit, develop, and inspire a high performing regional leadership team.
  • Community Leadership: Act as the visible executive presence across coastal communities, government, and external partners.
