The Opportunity: Catholic Health is seeking an accomplished physician executive to serve as Vice President Medical Affairs, Physician Enterprise (VPMA). This senior leadership role is responsible for the strategic direction, clinical performance, and continued growth of the Physician Enterprise, Ambulatory Care services, and Clinical Councils. Reporting directly to the Chief Physician Executive for Catholic Health, the VPMA provides executive leadership for the clinical practice management of 250+ physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), ensuring alignment with organizational goals, quality standards, and Catholic Health's mission. The VPMA directly oversees the Physician Enterprise Dyad Medical Directors, Ambulatory Care Medical Directors, Ambulatory Care Quality Medical Director, assigned Physician Enterprise physicians and providers, the Senior Director of Clinical Councils, and Clinical Council Chairs. The VPMA will lead the development and implementation of clinical programs, evidence-based protocols, and clinically integrated care networks while fostering strong collaboration among physician practices, hospitals, ambulatory services, and community partners. The VPMA will support provider compensation strategies, physician and APP integration, contract development and management, and service line expansion. The role is accountable for ensuring full compliance with governmental, regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards across the Physician Enterprise and Ambulatory Care settings. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the VPMA partners with the SVP, Vice President of Operations, Physician Enterprise, Dyad Medical Directors, Dyad Administrative Directors, and other system leaders to align physician practices, improve access to care, enhance patient outcomes, and advance operational excellence. The position provides strategic oversight for physician recruitment, retention, leadership development, practice acquisition opportunities, market growth initiatives, quality performance, productivity, and financial stewardship. This leader works collaboratively with Catholic Health administration, hospital leadership, Catholic Medical Partners, and medical staff leaders to strengthen clinical integration and maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care delivery. The VPMA champions a culture that is patient-centered, evidence-based, interdisciplinary, and focused on continuous improvement in safety, quality, patient experience, and cost management. Additional responsibilities include educating physicians and caregivers, supporting interdisciplinary care teams, establishing clinical standards, and implementing strategies that promote coordinated, high-quality care. Through close collaboration with medical leadership across the system, the VPMA builds relationships that streamline patient triage, improve care coordination, and support the delivery of evidence-based care within a patient-centric model.   • Demonstrated competence in managing large, multispecialty practices.
  • Significant leadership, with more than 10 years of experience practicing medicine along with medical staff or administrative leadership positions.
  • Significant experience working with physicians, administration, and the Board of Directors of a health system.
  • A history of strong teamwork, interpersonal relations, communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • An ability to get along with diverse personalities and to handle multifaceted, long­ term projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
  • Possession of a solid record of effective physician relations, including the ability to work with physicians on daily problem-solving and in the development of new programs and leading transformational change.
  • Advanced business or related degree (MBA, MHA, MSM, MSHA) preferred.
  • Board certification, or equivalent, in Surgery or Medicine with a current physician license, or eligibility for licensure, in the state of New York.

  • The Vice President of Operations, Physician Enterprise, will provide enterprise-wide operational leadership across the Physician Enterprise, overseeing multi-site ambulatory operations and ensuring consistent execution of the organizational operating model.
  • Reporting to the SVP of Physician Enterprise, the Vice President will serve as the primary execution partner to the SVP, translating strategic priorities into operational plans, performance expectations, and measurable outcomes. 
  • Drive standardization across clinics and regions to reduce operational variation and improve access, patient flow, quality, and patient experience outcomes. 
  • This leader will establish and maintain a disciplined operating cadence supported by performance dashboards, accountability structures, and timely issue escalation and resolution. 
  • Lead initiatives to improve financial and operational performance, including productivity optimization, cost-to-serve reduction, and minimization of avoidable rework and denials 
  • The VP will oversee execution of enterprise growth and transformation initiatives, including provider onboarding, practice integrations, expansions, and workflow or EHR changes. 
  • Partner closely with physician leaders, clinical teams, and enabling services to ensure alignment, collaboration, and effective execution of system-wide priorities. 
  • Develop and strengthen System Operations Directors and practice management leaders to build long-term leadership capacity and operational excellence across the enterprise. 
  • Must be able to provide executive-level communication, synthesis, and decision support, ensuring timely escalation of risks, barriers, and performance gaps to senior leadership.
  • The ideal candidate is a highly strategic and execution-focused healthcare operations executive with deep experience leading large, multi-site ambulatory or physician enterprise systems. They are skilled in driving standardization, accountability, and performance improvement across complex, distributed environments. 
  • This leader is data-driven, highly influential, and comfortable operating as a senior delegate to executive leadership. They excel at building operating discipline, leading large-scale transformation, and aligning physicians, administrators, and cross-functional stakeholders around shared performance goals.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree is required. 
  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressive healthcare leadership, specifically multi-site, experience is required. 
  • Acquisition experience is strongly preferred. 
Compensation Details 
  • The base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $230,000 annually. In addition, a leader may be eligible for other benefits, including but not limited to health insurance coverage, retirement benefits, and bonuses. The total compensation for the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The base salary range listed above is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
