Healthcare Employment is the Bright Spot in September
The healthcare industry added 23,000 jobs in September, more than any other industry sector, as overall employment declined by 33,000 jobs, or 4.2%, due to the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey on the nation’s economy.
Ambulatory healthcare services saw a significant increase of 27,000 jobs, but that was offset by a decline in nursing care facilities employment (-9,000). Hospitals gained nearly 5,000 jobs.
Healthcare employment has increased by a monthly average of 27,000 jobs over the last 12 months.
