The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. Key Functions: -Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. -Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. -Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. -Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and that is based on patient and family needs. -Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. -Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. -Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. -Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. -Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. -Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution. -Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. -Monitors EMU patients 24/7 for seizure activity. -Ensures good communication with patients/family by utilizing meaningful hourly rounding, bedside shift report and whiteboards. -Works with critical care team for Advanced Care patients. -Works with hospitalists for Advanced Care patients.

Progressive care nurses are registered nurses who are skilled in assessing and treating acutely ill patients. They monitor critical vital signs, detect changes, and perform interventions when required. They provide care to patients who do not require treatment in Intensive Care Units, but whose conditions need constant observation and monitoring.

As a valued member of the Telemetry (Tele) RN team, you will care for patients with a wide range of conditions including complex cases. This unit constantly monitors blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen level and cardiac electrical activity of patients on the unit, utilizing specialized equipment. RN’s will mainly care for patients recovering from heart conditions or cardiac surgery. The right candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work in a professionally challenging, positive, and innovative Telemetry work environment at this highly regarded facility.

The Cardiovascular Registered Nurse uses clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat patient responses to actual or potential health conditions. The RN is a critical member of the Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) which cares for over 4000 cardiology patients annually; procedures including PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip and bi-ventricular pacemakers. Approximately 300 open heart surgery patients (18-24 hours post-op) are discharged from this unit. The CVU also specializes in the care of patients with congestive heart failure and electrophysiology studies. Our NISUS research department manages many national clinical trials using CVU. The CVU has been awarded a Silver level Beacon Award in 2014 and was redesigned in 2017 by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). This accomplishment represents one of many significant milestones on CVU’s journey to optimal outcomes and exceptional patient care that could not be achieved without our exceptional RNs. Oxygen: Trachs, BIPAP, Hiflow, NO vents. Chest tubes, JPs, NO Alines Ratios 1:4 (higher acuity) but can go to 1:5-6. Typically 2 patient care assistants. Monitor techs available to watch telemetry. Charge nurses primarily out of ratio depending on census and staffing. *All listed ratios are subject to change based on staffing availability at the facility. Ratios are never guaranteed but are what the unit typically attempts to achieve with normalized staffing.

Patient Population: Cardiac Telemetry, Vascular and Med-Surg. Some Post Cath, Post Pacemakers. Lines/Drains/Devices: PICC’s, dialysis catheter’s, PEG tubes, ostomies, foley’s, chest tubes, NG tubes, tube feeding (Kangaroo pumps), wound vacs. Airway: Trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, Heated High Flow, High Flow, Nasal cannulas. No ventilators. Drips: Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Lasix, Heparin, and Insulin. PCA pumps for pain management. Ancillary Staff: 1-3 PCA’s and unit secretary depending on census and availability. Phlebotomy available for lab draws. Scrubs: Navy blue scrubs. Other: Nurses are required to read/verify telemetry strips once a shift in EPIC.
