Level 1 Trauma Center Teaching Hospital Nurses for this unit need Med Surg experience as this floor has inpatients pre or post-surgical services-mostly surgical experience is needed. 4E candidates will care for patients post operatively and need to have experiences taking care of patients with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT or DHT. Some of these patients will be Step down care as well. Ratios are 5 or 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for SD area. 4W is our surgical transplant area and also has Step down patients and post op patients. These patients are new transplant patients or returning transplant patients. They need close monitoring for reaction and rejection as well as infection.
