The Organization:Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University represents the most comprehensive health sciences center in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Grounded in a commitment to the diverse communities in which it serves, Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is developing a larger pipeline for healthcare professionals and leading the transformation of the health and economy of Hampton Roads and beyond. This new academic health sciences center was founded July 1, 2024, following the integration of Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), (est. 1973) into Old Dominion University (ODU), (est. 1930). For 50 years, EVMS held an honored position in American history — both as a school of medicine founded by a community-led grassroots effort and as a pioneer in medical innovation, including research that led to the birth of the country’s first baby conceived through in vitro fertilization. ODU is Virginia's forward-focused public doctoral research university with more than 24,000 students and a top R1 research institution recognized nationally for academic excellence, social mobility and access. Military friendly and home to an energetic residential community and initiatives that currently contribute $3.8 billion annually to Virginia's economy, ODU is a leader in the commonwealth.  The Opportunity: Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion Universityseeks an accomplished and visionary Division Chief of Sleep Medicine to lead and advance a growing academic division. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, this role offers a unique opportunity for an academic leader to strengthen clinical programs, expand educational and scholarly missions, and shape the future of Sleep Medicine during a period of significant institutional growth. The Division includes an ACGME-accredited one-year Sleep Medicine Fellowship, delivers care across multiple affiliated sites, and maintains a strong presence in undergraduate and graduate medical education. The Division Chief will provide strategic and administrative leadership, recruit and mentor faculty, lead and enhance the fellowship program, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration across ODU, Sentara Health System, and the Veterans Health Administration. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience, with opportunities for continued leadership development within the Department of Medicine. The Division: The Division of Sleep Medicine is a nationally accredited academic program dedicated to high-quality patient care, education, and scholarship across adult and pediatric sleep disorders. Supported by an interdisciplinary clinical team and dedicated administrative staff, the Division serves as an important contributor to the clinical and educational missions of the Department of Medicine. The clinical enterprise spans multiple affiliated training and care sites, including Williams Hall, which houses a state-of-the-art sleep center and serves as the primary training site for the Sleep Medicine Fellowship, as well as Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). Collectively, the Division supports a growing outpatient-based consultative practice with approximately 3,100 outpatient visits annually, nearly 940 new and unique sleep consultations, and roughly 500 diagnostic sleep studies per year, serving adult, pediatric, and veteran populations. Educationally, the Division oversees an ACGME-accredited, one-year Sleep Medicine Fellowship, established in 2014, with one fellow per year, and maintains a strong presence in undergraduate and graduate medical education. Faculty are actively engaged in medical student teaching across all four years, internal medicine residency training, and interdisciplinary education, including elective opportunities for psychiatry residents. Strong collaboration across EVMS, Old Dominion University, Sentara Health System, and the regional VA network positions the Division for continued growth in clinical excellence, educational impact, and scholarly activity. The Ideal Candidate: The Division Chief of Sleep Medicine will be an accomplished physician, administrator, and inspirational leader who is prepared to devote this phase of their career to the advancement of the Division’s faculty, trainees, and mission. Education/Certification·       MD or DO with board certification or eligibility in Sleep Medicine.·       Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in an academic or academic-affiliated setting.·       Eligibility for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.·       Demonstrated commitment to education, clinical excellence, and academic leadership.·       Experience with fellowship training and curriculum development is highly desirable. The Region: The Hampton Roads region is a vibrant coastal area serving 1.7 million residents across nine cities in southeastern Virginia, including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Williamsburg.
