LPN’s are assistants to physicians and registered nurses and take care of basic nursing duties. Duties often included taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medication, ensuring patient comfort, and reporting the status of their patients to the nurses. The overall function of a licensed practical nurse is to ensure patient comfort and safety. LPN/LVN’s generally work at any location an RN works such as: hospital, nursing homes, long term care facilities or clinic.Education/Requirements:
High School education is required along with completion of a formal training program.
Must pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX)
Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interview patients, measure vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height) and record information on patients' charts. May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients. Inform patients of costs for care being provided and guides them to appropriate resources for further information. Type routine correspondence and reports from dictation or handwritten copy. Answer telephones, screen callers, relay messages and greet visitors. Medical Assistants can work in multiple settings including doctor’s offices, hospital and/or outpatient clinic.Education/Requirements:
High School education is required, some states also require the completion of a certificate program.
A Certified Nursing Assistant, or Certified Nursing Aide, is responsible for supporting medical staff in administering care to patients with various injuries, illnesses or disabilities. Their duties include helping patients bathe and maintain proper hygiene, feeding patients or ensuring they take their medication and assessing their patients’ vital signs to notify staff of any changes. C.N.A.’s can work in a variety of settings includes camps, clinics, schools, and ambulatory care centers but typically work at a hospital or skilled nursing facility. Education/Requirements:
High School education is required along with completion of a state approved formal training program.
