This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a highly visible academic division within one of the nation’s leading nonprofit health systems and to shape the future of high-risk obstetrical care, education, research, and program development across Northeast Ohio.  The Division Chief will work in close partnership with UH Medical Group leadership, the Department Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, faculty, trainees, and institutional partners to advance clinical excellence, strengthen academic programs, support innovative research, and further position UH Cleveland Medical Center and UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital as regional and national leaders in maternal fetal medicine.  The Position
  • Provide strategic, clinical, academic, research, and administrative leadership for the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. 
  • Guide the Division’s growth, quality, access, program development, faculty recruitment, and financial performance in alignment with UH, UHMG, UHCMC, and departmental priorities. 
  • Oversee inpatient and outpatient maternal fetal medicine services, clinical quality, patient safety, coverage models, and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Partner with the OBGYN residency program director and Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program Director to support outstanding education and training. 
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, high-performing environment that supports faculty development, mentorship, research activity, and multidisciplinary care.

  • MD or DO degree with eligibility for an unrestricted Ohio medical license. 
  • Board certification in Maternal Fetal Medicine. 
  • At least 10 years of experience in the practice of medicine, with demonstrated leadership experience in an academic or complex healthcare environment. 
  • Record of excellence in clinical care, education, research and/or administration, with the ability to lead in a matrixed academic medical center. 
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, mentor, and inspire diverse faculty, clinicians, physician-scientists, trainees, and staff. 
  • Commitment to quality, safety, high reliability, inclusion, access, patient-centered care, and service to women, babies, and families. 
Compensation and Benefits The salary range of $600,000 to $730,000 reflects a good faith estimate of the potential base compensation for this physician leader position at the time of posting. This range is subject to change and may be updated in the future. The Opportunity The MetroHealth System, a nationally recognized, mission-driven academic health system and the largest public health provider in Northeast Ohio, is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the next Chairperson of the Department of Anesthesiology. The Chair reports directly to the EVP, Chief Physician Executive & Clinical Officer, and has accountability to the EVP Chief Academic Officer and the EVP, Chief Operating Officer, and is also accountable to the Dean of the CWRU School of Medicine. Academic appointment will be through Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.   MetroHealth’s Department of Anesthesiology includes the full spectrum of anesthetic care including trauma, high risk obstetrics, neurosurgical, cardiac, thoracic, vascular, pediatric, and acute and chronic pain. The Department serves as the Academic Department of Anesthesiology for Case Western Reserve University’s MetroHealth campus, supporting a residency program with 28 residents, medical student education, and a growing research portfolio. Many clinical services and outpatient procedures are moving to a new facility on MetroHealth’s Main Campus, creating a more modern, convenient patient experience with streamlined access, simplified check-in, expanded services, and a 24/7 drive-through pharmacy.   The Ideal Candidate The Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology will be a strategic, collaborative, and inspirational leader responsible for advancing clinical care, education, community outreach, and research. With a dedicated team of 70–75 clinicians, including 55 board-certified physicians and 20 advanced practice providers, the department delivers high-quality, accessible care at 15–20 clinical sites across Cuyahoga County.
