We are proud to celebrate Adriana G. as the winner of the Care Champion Scholarship.
Adriana’s story is one of purpose, compassion, and action. As a bilingual Spanish-English graduate student in speech-language pathology, she is preparing for a career that will help more families feel seen, heard, and supported. Her path is rooted in both professional passion and personal experience, and that is what makes her vision so powerful.
A Journey Shaped by Real Need 
For Adriana, access to care is not an abstract idea. It is personal.
When her son was young, Spanish was the only language he spoke. When he needed speech therapy, Adriana faced a challenge that many families know too well: finding a Spanish-speaking clinician was not easy. She understood the fear and frustration of wanting the best care for her child while knowing that the language of home, comfort, and identity was not fully reflected in therapy.
That experience stayed with her. It also helped define her mission.
Rather than accept that gap in care, Adriana chose to build a future where more families can receive support that respects their language, culture, and lived experience. That choice reflects the spirit of the Care Champion Scholarship. It is about supporting people who do not just see a problem, but feel called to help solve it.
A Vision for Equitable, Culturally Responsive Care
Adriana’s goals reach far beyond the classroom.
She envisions a fully bilingual communication program designed to make care more accessible and more human. Her dream includes services for both children and adults, with a strong focus on cultural responsiveness and family empowerment. She wants families to have the tools, confidence, and support they need to help communication grow in everyday life.
Her vision also includes mobile therapy services for people who may be homebound, lack transportation, have unreliable internet access, or face unstable housing. It is a thoughtful and practical idea rooted in dignity.
Why Adriana’s Work Matters 
Communication is tied to identity, connection, and independence.When people cannot access services in the language that feels most natural to them, barriers grow. Families can feel isolated. Needs can go unmet. Opportunities can narrow.
Adriana is working to change that.
