AMN Healthcare is excited to announce their Diamond-level sponsorship of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) Language Access Congress from September 28-29, 2023.

The theme of the NCIHC virtual conference is “Going Back to the Future,” and the two-day event will feature a comprehensive agenda of speakers, keynote sessions, networking opportunities, awards, workshops, panels, music and much more.

This year is especially significant for the NCIHC as it marks the organization's 25th anniversary. AMN Language Services is honored to help celebrate this milestone and significant achievement. Continuing the organization’s rich history, the first annual NCIHC Language Access Congress will be open to both members and non-members.

The NCIHC Congress website notes, “We will feature a throwback to 25 years and the state of language access in health care, while we visit present-day health care interpreting and then we will jump into our time machine and envision the future of language access and healthcare interpreting.”

Melanie Fontes Rainer, director of the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, will be the keynote speaker for this year’s Congress. She leads the department’s enforcement of federal civil rights and privacy laws and directs related policy and strategic initiatives.

"We are honored to have a keynote speaker so informed and engaged in language access as Ms. Fontes Rainer,” NCIHC President Erika Shell Castro stated in a July 6, 2023 press release.

Overview of the NCIHC Virtual Conference Agenda

In addition to the highly-anticipated keynote speaker, the agenda for the NCIHC Language Access Congress includes a variety of other standout sessions and programs. The content has been created to expand participants’ knowledge with up-to-date information on the latest developments in the field, to brainstorm and to network.

The Thursday evening reception agenda includes the event kickoff welcome and introductions, “Interpretini” reception and meet and greet mixer, and concludes with music by Edna Vazquez who tours with the band Pink Martini.

Friday’s robust agenda includes the keynote speaker, workshops, awards, panel discussions and other programs that will allow participants to learn about specific topics. Some of these include advocating for communication equity in healthcare services; quality control for onsite and remote interpreting; disparities in language access; and other pertinent issues that impact healthcare interpreters and language access.

Our very own Sharon Gonzalez (Training Consultant) and Ursula Sendra (Training Consultant) will be presenting an educational session at the conference titled Power Dynamics in Interpreting: Leveraging Power Dynamics in Triadic Communication to Uphold Patient Autonomy.

Language Access Congress registration pricing is as follows (Early-bird Pricing ends Aug. 31, 2023):

• NCIHC Member Regular Registration: $75
• Non-Member Regular Registration: $155
