This leadership role is pivotal in advancing OU Health’s mission to provide exceptional patient care, innovative research, and comprehensive education in the field of transplantation.The Executive Medical Director will serve as the senior physician leader responsible for the strategic, clinical, and academic advancement of solid organ transplantation services across the health system. Operating in a dyad leadership model with the Vice President of Transplant Services, the Executive Medical Director will drive clinical excellence, program growth, and operational integration.This Executive Medical Director serves on the Adult Services Leadership Team, alongside the VP of Transplant Services, and operates within a matrixed leadership framework:• Academic Reporting: To the relevant Department Chair (e.g., Surgery or Medicine, based on the specialty of the preferred candidate).• Operational Accountability: Directly to the President of Adult Services. Indirectly to the Chairs of the Departments of Medicine and Surgery, Chief Physician Executive (CPE), Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Chief Medical Officer (CMO)This is a transformational opportunity to build and lead a multidisciplinary team, strengthening clinical and academic services, inspiring providers across departments, and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability to meet ambitious program goals. With full support from institutional leadership, the Executive Medical Director will play a central role in positioning OU Health as the premier transplant center in Oklahoma and a destination program for the region.The Program: OU Health’s Solid Organ Transplant Program unites Oklahoma’s most experienced multidisciplinary team, offering liver, pancreas, and kidney transplantation for both adults and children, with more than 50 years of combined expertise.The program operates under an integrated governance model:• Each organ program (Kidney, Liver) is led by a physician who reports to the Executive Medical Director.• Shared services—quality, access, regulatory oversight, research, and organ procurement—are centrally managed for consistency and excellence.• The program is housed within the Adult Services Division, which oversees budget, capital planning, and programmatic growth.• The Executive Medical Director serves on the Adult Services Leadership Team alongside the VP of Transplant Services, with dotted-line collaboration to department chairs and senior executives (CPE, COO, CMO).This centralized structure:• Reduces fragmentation and streamlines administration• Aligns faculty, operations, and resources around the transplant mission• Supports dedicated budgeting and staffing• Enhances visibility in institutional planning and strategic growthOU Health also proudly operates Oklahoma’s only UNOS-certified pediatric liver and kidney transplant programs.The Ideal Candidate: The preferred candidate is a physician trained in medicine or surgery with deep experience in transplant leadership, academic and clinical program development, and cross-functional collaboration.
