In 2007, Ballad Health (then Mountain States Health Alliance) began a partnership with AMN Healthcare with a mission to revamp their process for managing nursing labor. Together, we worked to evolve a fragmented model into a centralized approach, utilizing our proprietary Smart Square software to reduce nursing labor costs and implement a more efficient staffing and scheduling process.
Our combined efforts placed focus enterprise-wide, streamlining labor management across 34 facilities and 7,317 team members.
With a shared belief in predictive analytics and determination to drive change in an evolving healthcare landscape, our partnership has enabled Ballad Health to adopt a proactive staffing strategy—reducing labor costs, managing labor more effectively, and ultimately, driving better patient outcomes.

Throughout our 15-year partnership with Ballad Health, the results of our collaboration speak for themselves. Cost savings reached $7.2M annually in contract labor costs at the flagship hospital alone, extending to $8M annually tied to both centralized resource management and increased staff retention across the hospital system.
