Though slightly smaller than Fort Bragg, it offers similar employment opportunities in healthcare with a focus on personalized care and a welcoming work environment. The pay range for surgical technologists aligns closely with that of Fort Bragg, making it an attractive option for professionals in the field. The cost of living can be slightly higher, especially considering the picturesque housing options that overlook the ocean, but many find the trade-off worthwhile due to its unique lifestyle. The Mediterranean-like climate contributes to the area’s beauty, and residents can partake in a range of activities, from art galleries and farmers’ markets to coastal hikes and wine tasting in nearby vineyards.

Santa Rosa, located in Sonoma County, offers a more urban environment while still being close to the scenic Pacific coast. The city boasts a well-developed healthcare infrastructure, including hospitals and surgical centers, providing numerous job opportunities for surgical technologists. While the cost of living is higher than in Fort Bragg, the greater availability of amenities and housing options can make it an appealing choice. The diversified lifestyle in Santa Rosa includes wineries, vibrant dining scenes, and cultural festivals, adding vibrancy to day-to-day living. The climate is characterized by warm summers and mild winters, attracting those who appreciate a bit more warmth and sun.

Bend, Oregon, also presents a compelling alternative, particularly for those looking for an outdoor-oriented lifestyle combined with a growing healthcare sector. Although further inland, Bend’s burgeoning population has led to an expansion of medical facilities and increased demand for surgical technologists, often yielding competitive salaries. The cost of living is relatively moderate compared to other larger cities, allowing for various housing options ranging from downtown apartments to more spacious homes in scenic neighborhoods. Bend’s high desert climate features warm summers and cold winters, ideal for both summer hiking and winter sports enthusiasts. The city is rich in recreational activities, including biking, hiking, and microbreweries, which contribute to its lively community and laid-back vibe.

Lastly, Medford, Oregon, offers an attractive blend of affordability and access to healthcare jobs, making it an appealing choice for surgical technologists. The cost of living is lower than in many larger urban areas, and housing tends to be more affordable, providing a good quality of life for residents. Medford has a solid job market with multiple healthcare institutions, including Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, which helps ensure job stability. The climate is characterized by warm, dry summers and mild winters, contributing to a comfortable living environment.
