  • Associate Degree within specialty is required, some states also require the completion of a certificate program.

PICU RN's provide care for children and adolescents with life-threatening or high acuity conditions that require constant monitoring. PICU RN's provide medications, intravenous fluids, and artificial nutrition. PICU RN’s collaborate with families, physicians and other healthcare professionals or clinicians, to determine the best course of patient care and recovery. PICU RN's work in the pediatric intensive care unit; an area within a hospital specializing in the care of critically ill infants, children, and teenagers. The unit below PICU is called Peds, similar to a Med Surg unit at an adult facility. PICU RN’s often float to Peds as needed.Education/Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): 4-Year Education 
  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN): 2-Year Education 
  • You must earn an ADN or BSN degree and pass the NCLEX to apply for a license as a RN. 
  • RN‘s can only work with an active state license.
  • ACLS and PALS are often required

CVICU RN's need to keep watch over people whose condition may undergo rapid changes as well as care for those who are often too ill to care for themselves in even the most basic capacity. CVICU specializes in Cardiac. Typically, these units get open hearts that have swans in place. CVCU RN's work in the ICU unit of a hospital, sometimes called Critical Care. CVICU RN’s may be asked to float to PCU or TeleEducation/Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): 4-Year Education
