Meet Tonika J., AMN Healthcare's October School Traveler of the Month
Some travelers make every assignment feel like home. Tonika J. is one of them. This month, we're proud to name her AMN Healthcare's School Traveler of the Month for October.
Tonika is an occupational therapist (OT) and a valued member of our Allied Schools community. She brings deep experience, steady commitment, and contagious energy to every school she serves. Her story also shows something every traveler knows well: the right support system can shape your whole career.
A Career Built on Experience and Adventure
Tonika has worked in occupational therapy for 14 years. For roughly 12 or 13 of those years, she has taken her skills on the road as a traveler.
That's more than a decade of new campuses, new teams, and new students who count on her. School-based OTs help children build the skills they need to learn and thrive, from handwriting and fine motor control to sensory needs and daily routines. Each assignment brings fresh challenges, and Tonika has met them repeatedly with skill and heart.
Long-term travel isn't always easy. You pack up, settle in, and build trust with a new team every few months. Tonika's lasting success shows what's possible when you love your work and have the right people backing you.
"My Personal Advocate, Professionally"
When we asked Tonika what she values most about working with AMN Healthcare, her answer came quickly. It was her recruiter, Sara Pelle.
"My recruiter Sara is LITERALLY my personal advocate, professionally!" Tonika shared.
Tonika knows from experience how much the recruiter relationship matters. As she put it, "The experience you have with your recruiter can sometimes make or break your travel experience!"
For Tonika, Sara has made all the difference. "With her on my team, I know that I have absolutely nothing to worry about!" she said. "She has been the BESTEST recruiter eveeeer!"
Fast Answers and Real Follow-Through
Traveling clinicians often juggle a lot at once. You may be wrapping up one assignment, lining up the next, and keeping your credentials and licensure on track. Quick, clear communication helps you stay ahead.
That's where Sara shines. Tonika says she can always count on Sara to get to the bottom of things when questions come up. Sara also delivers updates fast. In Tonika's words, Sara shares the same updates others are getting, but "in record time!"
That kind of follow-through brings peace of mind. When you trust your recruiter to keep you informed and solve problems, you can focus on what matters most: your students and your practice.
From Recruiter to Family
Over the years, Tonika and Sara have built more than a working relationship. "She has graduated to family status!" Tonika said.
That bond reflects what we hope every AMN Healthcare traveler feels. A great recruiter does more than match you with jobs. They listen, advocate for you, and walk with you through each step of your journey. When that connection clicks, travel feels less like a series of contracts and more like a career you're building together.
