Why You Should Travel with AMN!
AMN has been amazing for me! Just under three and a half years ago, I first contacted Ashley Flete, my recruiter. Ever since day one, she has been not only my biggest cheerleader, but she has become like family! As an ER nurse married to a surgical tech, I’m happy that AMN allows us to travel together and see not only the country, but the world! AMN has given me the opportunity to chase my dreams.
AMN allows me to travel all over the United States and seek out adventure. From Coast-to-Coast, adventure waits for me every 13 weeks (unless I extend, which usually happens!) When my wife and I are not on contract with AMN, we are usually sailing the seven seas or traveling to various parts of the globe, checking items off our bucket list! From glaciers in Alaska to Volcanos in Italy, we have an avenue to see it all. The ability to travel both for work and pleasure without a worry in the world is an amazing feeling that I could never imagine without traveling with AMN.
People often ask us how I became a travel nurse—there is no short answer. I was a paramedic since 2001 and transitioned into nursing because I knew I wanted to become a travel nurse. I did the work and got my experience and the rest, they say, is history. A few years later, it all seems like the blink of an eye. I wish I had made the transition sooner.
How do we pick our assignments?
Using the AMN Passport app (LOVE this APP), we see what is available in each area of the country where we both have potential, and use that as a starting point for our recruiter. Our recruiter then does her magic and poof, sends us a list of places that have space for us both, and submits us for new contracts.
How do we travel to our assignments? And why?
We drive to each assignment. We take the long way there and home. We stop to "smell the roses." We see the sites, visit the National Parks, and find hole-in-the-wall places only the locals know. For example, did you know in Newport Rhode Island the oldest tavern in America is still in operation and has amazing food? Well, it is, and it is called the White Horse Tavern. Or in Arlington, Virginia—stopping to watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier—what an amazing site to see. Have you ever watched the sunrise or sunset at the Grand Canyon? We have experienced all of these moments on the way to or from travel contracts.
We have celebrated Mardi Gras and Christmas in Disney. We’ve taken in sunrise in the Painted Desert, seen wild mustangs running free, and watched whales breaching the ocean surface. Our current assignment is in Rhode Island—on drive up from Arkansas, we passed through North Carolina and visited the Biltmore, before stopping in our nation's capitol and seeing monuments and sites I have only ever dreamed of. We even hit New York City and caught a Broadway show!
How are the travel nurse benefits?

Why do I love to travel?
I love learning and experiencing new cultures wherever I go—AMN gives me that opportunity. I am able to chase my dreams and get paid to do it! My dream of seeing all 50 states and the world feels possible with the support I am given to do it. Just this past summer, we spent 32 days exploring Italy, Greece, Turkey, Spain, and Portugal all because of the carefree life we get to lead as travelers. We work hard and play harder!
