This prestigious award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond in their care, providing extraordinary service to patients and families. We are proud to introduce our incredible awardees: Deanna Marinelli, Foday Jawla, Anika Francois-Herrera, Jana Anderson, and Mary Osei.
What is the DAISY Award?
The DAISY Award, established by the DAISY Foundation, is a recognition program that honors the exceptional work nurses do daily. Named in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away from an autoimmune disease, the award acknowledges the super-human efforts of nurses who provide extraordinary care. DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.”
What Does It Mean When a Nurse Gets a DAISY Award?
Receiving a DAISY Award signifies that a nurse has made a significant impact on patient care through their compassion, dedication, and excellence. It is an acknowledgment from patients, families, and colleagues that the nurse has gone above and beyond in their duties, making a profound difference in the lives of those they serve. Mary Osei
Mary Osei has been recognized multiple times for her exceptional dedication to patient care. One of her notable moments includes voluntarily attending a joint refresher class to ensure she provides the best care possible. Mary's commitment to her patients and her team is truly commendable.

"Mary was not required to attend the joint refresher class but chose to do so to ensure she gives great care... I completed pain audits on two of Mary's patients, and her charting looked great... During leader rounds, a patient's wife mentioned that Mary provided exceptional, compassionate care. Mary, you are such an asset to our team!"
Deanna Marinelli
Deanna Marinelli is known for her kindness and patience, especially when caring for patients with challenging conditions. Her empathetic approach and thorough understanding of her patients' needs have made a significant difference in their care.

"Deanna cared for my brother during his seven-week stay. Due to his head injury and dementia, he was admitted with aggressive behavior. Deanna was kind and patient with his daily care and helped us understand his medication dosage and frequency."

"I've been a nurse for four years. Nursing is my second career, and I finished my BSN just before the pandemic. My clinical experience has been full of many emotional and physical ups and downs. I went into nursing to make a difference in people's lives. I thrive on human connection and making my patients feel comforted, as well as dignified in what might be the worst day of their lives. "
Foday Jawla
Foday Jawla has made history with his remarkable contributions to patient care. His dedication and compassionate care have earned him widespread recognition, both within his organization and on social media.

"Foday has made history by sharing his journey with our team and 'blown up' our social media. A repeat patient's loved one said, 'You, sir, are one of the reasons we travel so far to get to this facility. Thank you for making me feel safe and cared for.' Foday is just awesome!"

"I am from a West African country called The Gambia. I've been practicing as a nurse for almost twelve years. Growing up in a rural community with limited access to healthcare motivated me to pursue nursing to help people access basic health services."
Anika Francois-Herrera
Anika Francois-Herrera is celebrated for her intelligence, humor, and kindness. Her passion for nursing shines through every interaction, making her a beloved figure among patients and colleagues alike.
