To celebrate Physical Therapy Month, we are highlighting one of our outstanding Clinical Managers, Michelle Redline, PT, DPT. Her story is one of inspiration, connection, and unwavering support for both patients and fellow physical therapists. Join us as we explore Michelle's journey from a young athlete in rehab to a leader guiding the next wave of traveling PTs.
The Path to Physical Therapy
For many healthcare professionals, the journey begins with a personal experience. Michelle’s story is no different. A sports injury in high school introduced her to the world of physical therapy, not as a practitioner, but as a patient. That experience of rehabilitation and recovery sparked a passion for helping others regain their strength and reach their goals. It was a catalyst that set her on a dedicated educational and professional path.
Michelle pursued her passion at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, entering an entry-level program. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and another in health science before obtaining her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). This strong academic foundation prepared her for a diverse and impactful career.
A Career Built on Connection and Expertise
After graduation, Michelle began her career in outpatient orthopedics. Her skill and dedication quickly led to a management role at a private practice clinic, a position she held for a decade. During this time, she also gained valuable experience in acute care settings, broadening her clinical expertise.
Michelle thrived in the private practice environment, building strong relationships with her patients. It’s this ability to connect that has defined her career. She has a natural talent for making people feel heard and supported, which has been instrumental in her success.
Memorable Moments in Patient Care
When asked about her most memorable moments, Michelle doesn’t point to a single dramatic case. Instead, she finds deep satisfaction in winning over the skeptics. She describes the patients who arrive at the clinic already convinced that physical therapy won't help.
“Their minds are already made up that this will be a waste of time,” she explains. “They plan on coming for a visit or two just to satisfy their doctor.”
Michelle gives her absolute all to every single patient, and it’s these initially hesitant individuals who often become her most committed advocates.
“Those that see a difference in a session or two are some of my most committed patients and have become my best referral sources,” she says. There is no greater professional compliment than when a former patient sends a friend or family member, saying, “Terri sent me to you because he said you can fix anything, and you are the best.”
Supporting Travelers as a Clinical Manager
Today, Michelle brings her passion for connection and her extensive clinical background to her role as a Clinical Manager at AMN Healthcare. She sees her management position as a natural extension of her work as a physical therapist.
“The clinical management role and my PT role really go hand in hand,” she says. “I am a ‘connector’ by trade and thrive on relationships, whether with clinicians on assignment, patients I am treating, or employees I am supervising.”
In her role at AMN Healthcare, Michelle is a vital resource for traveling allied health professionals.
“I am here to be a support, advocate, and resource for our clinicians,” she states.
While the work is remote, the impact is immense. By supporting the therapists on the front lines, she is able to positively affect patient care on a much wider scale, ensuring that quality and compassion remain at the forefront.
Life Beyond the Clinic
When she’s not working, Michelle’s life is full of family, fitness, and fun. She and her husband, Marcus, who is also a Physical Therapist, are parents to four active little ones, Carter (8), Greyson (6), Reagan (3), and Cade (9mo).
They love spending time outdoors and are passionate about staying physically fit. They usually can be found bopping between football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and dance. And as a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan, Michelle brings that same passion to cheering on her team. Go Bills!
