October 1, 2024

By Michelle Gage

In this episode, Michelle sits down Dr. Shannon Hill, a licensed behavior analyst and licensed professional counselor, discusses the collaborative effort between speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and behavior analysts (BCBAs) in working with individuals of all ages. She highlights the shift in behavior management to behavior analysis, which focuses on understanding the function of behavior and addressing underlying needs. Dr. Hill emphasizes the importance of building skills and not just managing inappropriate behaviors. She suggests that SLPs and BCBAs work together to assess the environment, identify the function of behavior, and develop appropriate interventions. Dr. Hill also encourages open communication, collaboration, and seeking help from experts when needed.
