  • The Director of Nursing, Hematology, BMT, and Cell Therapy will provide strategic and operational leadership for inpatient and outpatient oncology nursing services, advancing UCSF Health and the Cancer Center’s mission, strategic goals, and standards of nursing excellence.
  • Reporting to the Director of Operations, this leader will oversee approximately 70 FTEs, including 22 direct reports.
  • This leader will prioritize understanding UCSF Health’s organizational structure and culture while partnering with leadership and service line teams to support strategic growth, innovation, and technological advancement. Additionally, this individual will focus on recruiting and retaining top talent, mentoring team members, and fostering a collaborative shared governance model that promotes professional development, accountability, and nursing excellence.
  • The Director of Nursing ensures exemplary provision of care to research and standard-of-care patients in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Working in a matrixed environment, the Director of Nursing partners to develop systems for integration with the broader health system (e.g. infusion, radiation oncology, inpatient services, pharmacy, imaging, labs, UC satellite locations). 
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of emerging technologies, scientific advancements, and evolving best practices within hematology, blood and marrow transplant, and cellular therapy. This leader must be adaptable, forward-thinking, and energized by working in a complex academic medical center environment where innovation and continuous improvement are highly valued. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional change management skills, the ability to think quickly and navigate ambiguity, and a proven track record of leading teams through growth and transformation. A collaborative attitude, commitment to excellence, and genuine enthusiasm for advancing cutting-edge oncology care will be essential. This individual should be driven to remain at the forefront of the field while fostering strong partnerships across all levels of the organization. 
Requirements
  • BSN required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Active California RN license required.
  • LEAN methodology training and Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of nursing leadership experience within a cancer services program, including outpatient Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant, and/or Cell Therapy services, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission, required.
Compensation Range
  • The base salary range for this position is $165,000 to $300,000 annually. In addition, a leader may be eligible for other benefits, including but not limited to health insurance coverage, retirement benefits, and bonuses. The total compensation for the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation.
