ICU RN’s need to keep watch over people whose condition may undergo rapid changes as well as care for those who are often too ill to care for themselves in even the most basic capacity. ICU RN’s work in the ICU unit of a hospital, sometimes called Critical Care. ICU RN’s may be asked to float to PCU or TeleEducation/Requirements:

CVICU RN’s provide highly specialized care to patients who suffer from a serious injury or illness. CVICU specializes in Cardiac. Typically, these units get open hearts that have swans in place. CVCU RN’s work in the ICU unit of a hospital, sometimes called Critical Care. CVICU RN’s may be asked to float to PCU or TeleEducation/Requirements:

LD RN's care for women during labor and childbirth, monitoring the baby and the mother, coaching mothers and assisting doctors. They prepare women, and their families, for the stages of giving birth and help patients with breastfeeding after the baby is born. In addition to assisting women throughout labor and the birthing process, LD RN' s care for women who experience complications with their pregnancies and assist surgeons during cesarean deliveries. LD RN's can work in a variety of settings such as hospital delivery rooms, physician’s offices, birthing centers, and community clinics. L&D RN’s may be asked to float to Postpartum or Mother Baby due to census.Education/Requirements:

Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN): 2-Year Education

NRP and AWHONN are often required

OR RN’s provide care for patients before, during, and after surgery. Duties include patient education, circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse, and potentially First Assist. Work alongside surgical teams to make sure that patients are receiving the best possible care; serve as liaisons between the surgical team and the patients ' families. OR RN’s work in the operating room of a hospital. There are several types of operating rooms depending on the type of surgery such as: General, Orthopedic, Neuro, Spine, Urology, and Cardiac/Thoracic.Education/Requirements:

PACU RN’s monitor post-operation vital signs, levels of consciousness, and assure patients safely wake from anesthesia after surgery. PACU RN’s treat pain, nausea, and other patient post-op symptoms, and any side effects of anesthesia. PACU RN’s work in the post-Anesthesia care unit at a hospital; can also be known as the recovery room. Education/Requirements:

PCU RN's closely monitor patients recently released from the ICU before those patients are moved to regular hospital beds. MS RN’s care for adult patients who are acutely ill with a wide variety of medical problems and diseases or are recovering from surgery. Med Surg unit of a facility is where ill patients go to recover before being discharged. Although most MS RN’s work in the Med Surg unit of hospitals, they can work in a variety of settings includes camps, clinics, schools, and ambulatory care centers.Education/Requirements:
