A typical day includes performing comprehensive speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallow evaluations; completing and interpreting MBSS in conjunction with radiology staff; and developing individualized treatment plans that are medically appropriate and functionally focused. You can expect to see approximately 8 patients per day, balancing new evaluations, MBSS studies, and follow-up treatment sessions. Caseload commonly includes patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative disease, cardiopulmonary conditions, post-surgical needs, and general deconditioning. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting evidence-based assessments, documenting thoroughly and efficiently in the electronic medical record, participating in team rounds or care conferences, and providing timely education to patients, caregivers, and staff. You will play a key role in recommending safe diet levels and compensatory strategies, making instrumental assessment recommendations, and contributing to discharge planning to support safe transitions of care. The position is structured as a full-time, day-shift schedule, working five 8-hour shifts per week for a total of 40 hours. This daytime schedule supports a predictable routine while allowing you to enjoy evenings exploring San Marcos’s riverfront, local eateries, and cultural offerings, or taking short drives to Austin, San Antonio, and other Hill Country communities.
