Nursing Uncharted EP 71 - The Career of a Clinical Nurse Specialist with Jennifer Manning

August 20, 2024

In this episode, Ann interviews Dr. Jennifer Manning, President of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, discusses the role of a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) and its importance in the healthcare system. A CNS is one of the four recognized advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) in the country, along with certified nurse anesthetists, certified nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners. The role of a CNS is regulated at the state level, and their scope of practice varies depending on the state. CNSs are trained in three spheres of work: direct care, system level, and working with nurses. They play a crucial role in patient care, healthcare system improvement, and nursing education.
