Dr. Ellen Lockhart serves as Principal in AMN Leadership Solutions’ Academic and Life Sciences Practice and is dedicated to recruiting outstanding physicians, scientists, executives, and system leaders who have a significant impact in academic medical centers and across the entire healthcare landscape. Dr. Lockhart brings a strong academic background with over 25 years of experience in academic medicine as a clinician, clinical leader, clinical researcher, and physician executive. Dr. Lockhart has served in progressive leadership roles at Vanderbilt University and most recently at Washington University in St. Louis where she served for 10 years as Professor and Vice-Chair in the Department of Anesthesiology. Her experiences with strategic, operational, and financial management of a large multi-hospital department, combined with her extensive background in recruitment and faculty retention and development, give her robust knowledge and understanding of both the challenges and opportunities within modern healthcare and 21st-century leadership. Dr. Lockhart earned a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and a medical degree from the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical School. After completing an anesthesiology residency at Barnes Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis, she completed a fellowship in obstetric anesthesiology at Duke University. She holds an Executive Leadership Certificate from The Olin Business School at Washington University. She is an elected member of the Association of University Anesthesiologists and a member of the National Association of Health Services Executives.
