The Children's Hospital has 64 neonatal beds, 8 level II nursery beds, 32 pediatric critical care beds, 16 pediatric oncology beds and 16 general pediatric beds. The hospital provides the highest level of care for newborns to young adults with common and complex medical conditions. For patients that require continued care into adulthood, they offer formalized transition programs. The hospital is making specialized care more accessible to patients by offering 11 clinics throughout Illinois, focusing on specialties like congenital heart, general surgery, hematology/oncology and more.As a premier children's hospital, they address the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of the pediatric patient based on three principles:• Children are unique and have special needs.• A child's illness impacts the entire family.• Childhood illness interferes with normal childhood growth and development.OSF Children's Hospital has been nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report for its urology, nephrology and neonatology programs. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) also offers a Small Baby Unit – one of the first in Illinois – caring for babies born before 30 weeks gestation.As a Children’s Oncology Group (COG) site, and in collaboration with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, OSF Children's Hospital offers the Jim & Trudy Maloof St. Jude Midwest Affiliate Clinic, providing the same level of cancer and blood-disorder treatments as one of the leading children's cancer centers.The Opportunity:OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois is seeking a dynamic, mission-driven leader to serve as Chief of Pediatric Urology, building upon the success of a highly respected program previously ranked among the nation’s top 30 by U.S. News & World Report. This is an exceptional opportunity for a clinically accomplished pediatric urologist with a passion for patient care, academic advancement, and collaborative leadership.Recognizing the highly competitive landscape for pediatric urology leadership, OSF is committed to offering flexible and innovative leadership models for the right candidate. The Chief does not need to reside in Peoria to be successful in this role, and hybrid or travel-based working arrangements are welcomed.Both Meg Zakrzewski, President of OSF Children’s Hospital, and Dr. Charles Aprahamian, Surgeon-in-Chief at OSF HealthCare, are fully supportive of this approach and are open to structuring the role in a way that best supports the incoming Chief and the long-term growth of the program. Examples include 10 days per month (.5 FTE) with full benefits, as well as other customized arrangements. OSF HealthCare has successfully implemented similar hybrid and travel-based schedules across several specialties, allowing physicians to balance professional impact with personal priorities.This is an exciting period of growth and momentum at OSF Children’s Hospital, with pediatric urology identified as a top institutional priority for continued investment. Over the past year alone, the hospital has recruited 21 new providers, including two pediatric neurologists, new division leadership in Gastroenterology and Neurology, and additional specialists across the NICU, PICU, and Orthopedic Surgery.The Chief will report directly to Dr. Charles Aprahamian, Surgeon-in-Chief, and Meg Zakrzewski, President of OSF Children’s Hospital, and will have the opportunity to hold a faculty appointment at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP). The role offers the opportunity to shape the future of pediatric urology services in central Illinois, with strong institutional support for academic contributions and clinical research.OSF HealthCare is home to the largest and most comprehensive group of pediatric specialists outside of Chicago, with more than 140 pediatric experts across the system. The Pediatric Urology Division delivers comprehensive care across a wide spectrum of urologic conditions, including complex congenital anomalies. Surgical services are supported by five da Vinci® Surgical Systems on the main campus, enabling minimally invasive procedures that enhance patient outcomes and recovery.As a mission-driven organization, OSF HealthCare is dedicated to improving children’s health through compassionate care, discovery, and innovation, and welcomes visionary leaders eager to advance that mission.The Division:Since 1994, our pediatric urology team has been caring for children, adolescents, and some adults with urinary and genital conditions. In FY24, the team managed over 500 surgical cases.The current team includes:• Dr. Ali El Ghazzaoui• Dr. Paul Noh• Linda Schmidgall, APRNIn April 2024, the Pediatric Surgery and Urology clinics moved to a new, facility at 400 N.E. Saint Mark Ct. in Peoria. This relocation from the Hillcrest Medical Plaza reflects OSF’s continued investment in providing a modern, patient-centered environment that enhances both access and experience for children and families. In addition, OSF is investing in an Pediatric Ambulatory Care Building that will include Urology services.The Ideal Candidate:The ideal candidate will be a skilled clinician and surgical specialist with experience across a broad range of pediatric urological conditions. They will bring a strong foundation in clinical care, program development, and mentorship, along with the ability to work collaboratively in academic and hospital settings. Preferred qualifications include experience with robotic surgery and an interest in Spina Bifida. Key qualities include strong communication, emotional intelligence, a commitment to diversity, and the professionalism to lead by example.Education/Certification:• MD, DO, or MD/PhD, with board certification in Pediatric Urology• Ability to obtain State of Illinois Medical Board licensure• Eligible for academic rank of assistant, associate or full professor – academic appointment will be commensurate with the individual’s experience• Demonstrated ability to treat all pediatric urological conditions and perform general and complex surgeries within the specialty• Experience in robotics is preferred but not required• Experience/interest in Spina Bifida patients is preferredThe Region:Located along the picturesque Illinois River, Peoria is the oldest European settlement in the state, founded by French explorers in 1680.
