This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented, operationally focused, and relationship-oriented physician leader to join a dynamic, high performing senior leadership team and impact the future of an exceptional community health system and the people it serves. Reporting to the System Senior Physician Executive of Tertiary Care and with a dotted line to the Senior Vice President (SVP), President of the Central Region, this executive will have the primary responsibility of helping develop and operationalize the Aspirus Medical Group in the tertiary care setting. This leader will also have a dyad with the hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Vice President of Operations. By assisting in the design and implementation of the care delivery model within the individual’s areas of accountability, the RMD will leverage the core values of Aspirus to achieve success. The incumbent will develop credible relationships of trust with independent and employed physicians as well as advance practice professionals (APCs). The RMD will have overall leadership responsibility for the physicians and APCs within their area of accountability. Qualifications: Candidates must have experience in the practice of medicine (post-residency/fellowship), direct patient care and demonstrated skills and experience in clinical and administrative leadership through activities including, but not limited to, advanced healthcare administration course work, service as a medical staff officer, or program medical director. Board certification in a clinical specialty is necessary. Education/Experience:
  • MD, DO, or DPM Required
  • Completion of a Master’s degree in a related field preferred or relevant, applicable experience
  • Completion of formal physician leadership training through Aspirus Health or a preferred national organization such as the American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL)
  • Experience working in physician-led, integrated healthcare delivery organization a plus
  • Proven results in technology utilization to optimize patient care and provider efficiency
  • Success as an influencer who can interact effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders such as other physicians, healthcare administration, and staff

The Opportunity:Wellstar Health System announces an exceptional opportunity for an exemplary physician leader to serve as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center. The healthcare system is nationally ranked and locally recognized for high-quality care, inclusive culture and exceptional physicians, advanced practice providers and caregivers. Wellstar is one of the largest and most integrated healthcare systems in Georgia. Reporting to the Hospital President with a strong matrix relationship to the EVP of Clinical Integration, the Chief Medical Officer will be a member of the executive leadership team for Wellstar North Fulton and will work collaboratively with the local leaders. The CMO is a leader of clinical initiatives aimed at improving quality, safety, patient and physician satisfaction while managing costs, reducing the length of stay, improving care coordination and clinical productivity. The CMO is responsible physician and APP relations, medical staff communications, and representing the clinical voice in the strategic planning process. The physician executive will have leadership oversight of performance for medical management and patient care metrics, safety initiatives, quality and service excellence, case management, physician leadership development, physician relations, implementation of clinical information systems, medical staff affairs support, continuing medical education and assistance, physician performance improvement and physician recruitment. The Ideal Candidate:
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience as a clinical physician required; may work clinically (0.1 FTE).
  • Minimum of 7 years of physician leadership experience in an acute care setting, including experience as a Chief Medical Officer strongly preferred.
  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine required.
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of Georgia.
  • Certification as a Physician Executive (CPE) or other advanced physician leadership certification preferred.
  • Experience with lean process improvement and EPIC strongly preferred.
  • Previous physician advisor experience strongly preferred.
  • Background in quality and safety, strong relationship-building skills, and credibility with procedural and service-line leaders are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal qualities and the demeanor and style to quickly establish the credibility in the organization with superior physician relation building skills.
  • An ability to organize and present data in a concise and easily understood manner, often to professionals, physicians, and board members.
  • Ability to use data to create accountability structures to drive success.
  • An understanding of statistical analysis, clinical epidemiology, best practices, and how to successfully introduce information technology into clinical practice.
  • An inspiring leader who can drive clinical quality and build a strong management team which is driven by and accountable for results; a proven ability and record of leading an organization through growth, change and expansion.
  • A management philosophy and behavior which exemplifies integrity and strength of character, people sensitivity and respect for others.
