In this role, you will evaluate and treat adult and geriatric patients across a variety of acute care units. Typical caseloads include patients recovering from orthopedic procedures, neurologic events such as stroke, cardiothoracic and general surgery, complex medical conditions, and deconditioned individuals requiring early mobility intervention. Depending on department structure, you may also provide services in intensive care or step-down settings, participating in early mobility and functional restoration programs in close partnership with nursing and medical staff. A typical day includes performing thorough physical therapy evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, and implementing evidence-based interventions focused on mobility, balance, strength, endurance, and functional independence. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, occupational and speech therapists, respiratory therapists, and case managers, to coordinate care and support safe, timely discharges. Patient education, family training, and clear communication of progress and recommendations are central to the role. Patient caseloads and ratios are designed to allow for comprehensive assessments and meaningful treatment sessions while maintaining safe and timely care across your assigned units.
