Meet Our Fall 2025 Care Champions Scholarship Winner
At AMN Healthcare, we proudly celebrate individuals who are shaping the future of care through passion, expertise, and innovation.
This fall, we honor Anabelle St. H. as our Fall 2025 Care Champions Scholarship recipient—a dedicated educator and aspiring school psychologist committed to transforming the lives of students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
Championing Mental Health in Schools
Anabelle’s scholarship essay highlighted a critical issue in education: the disparity in mental health support for students with Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities (EBD). She described two contrasting schools, one focused on strict behavior modification, the other prioritizing mental health services—and revealed how systemic inequities impact student outcomes.
Her vision is clear: school psychology must play a central role in creating equitable, supportive environments for all learners. By integrating evidence-based interventions and proactive mental health care, Anabelle aims to help students develop resilience, emotional regulation, and the confidence to succeed.
“They are not problems to be fixed, but complex individuals navigating substantial difficulties with the tools they’ve learned,” Anabelle shared. “With the correct support, students can rewrite the trajectories that have been unfairly paved for them.”
A Journey Toward Becoming a School Psychologist
Anabelle’s path reflects her deep commitment to the field of school psychology. With over four years of experience as a highly effective teacher in Title I schools, she has championed inclusive practices and social-emotional learning. Her clinical training at Columbia University and practicum experiences have equipped her to:
- Conduct psychoeducational evaluations
- Develop functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
- Provide individual and group counseling
- Collaborate with school-based teams to implement tiered supports
These skills are essential for any school psychologist striving to bridge the gap between research and practice. Anabelle’s work ensures that interventions are not only evidence-based but also implemented with fidelity to improve outcomes for students at every tier.
Why School Psychology Matters
The role of a school psychologist extends far beyond testing and evaluation. It encompasses advocacy, collaboration, and leadership in creating safe, supportive learning environments. Anabelle’s mission aligns perfectly with this vision—she seeks to restore dignity to students whose identities have been overshadowed by behavioral challenges and to promote mental health as a cornerstone of education.
Her approach emphasizes multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), proactive interventions, and culturally responsive practices, all critical components of modern school psychology.
Looking Ahead
Currently pursuing dual master’s degrees in School Psychology and Educational Psychology at Columbia University, Anabelle is poised to make a lasting impact on education systems nationwide. Her goal is to ensure that every student, especially those from minoritized communities, receives the mental health support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
