Beth Johnson loves working as a traveler. AMN Healthcare’s medical and community development mission provided her the opportunity of a lifetime when it sponsored her to become part of HELPS International Team Esperanza, which is creating an acute care hospital to treat patients among the impoverished indigenous population in the Guatemala Highlands.
Last year, Team Esperanza conducted more than 80 surgeries and provided clinical treatment for approximately 500 people in one week. Beth was interviewed on the plane from Dallas to Guatemala.
What will you be volunteering for with HELPS International?Beth: I will be assisting as a Surgical Scrub Tech.
How many years have you been traveling with AMN?Beth: I have been traveling with AMN for 4 years and hope to travel for as long as possible.
What hospital has been your favorite experience when traveling with AMN?Beth: I loved working for Santa Clara Kaiser and hope to move to Northern California in the future.
Why did you want to take part in this mission trip?Beth: I would like to start a non-profit and establish a medical mission trip of my own someday.
