National Donate Life Month: Opportunities for Hospitals

April 3, 2014 - April is National Donate Life Month, when hospitals and others celebrate the life-saving gift of organ donation and encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.

"For many communities, hospitals serve as the source of health information, which is why they are in the unique position to share the benefits of organ donation with their patients and staff," said Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association (AHA). AHA is a national partner in the Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA’s) Organ Donor Campaign and in Donate Life America, a national alliance committed to increasing organ, eye and tissue donation.

Donate Life America will hold the second annual “National Donate Life Blue and Green Day” on April 11 to promote organ, eye and tissue donation. The initiative encourages the public to wear blue and green that day to promote donation, and post their pictures on the Donate Life America Facebook page for a chance to win the best blue and green “look.”
