by Marcia Faller, PhDHolidays are defined by BBQs and beaches, and a break from the stresses of everyday life. Unfortunately, they can also be a time of increased illnesses and accidents, putting pressure on families, friends and the healthcare community that is working around the clock to ensure Americans enjoy their vacation plans. Marcia Faller, PhD, Chief Clinical Officer at AMN Healthcare, a leader in healthcare workforce solutions, understands how urgent care or ER patient visits can change dramatically during a holiday weekend. In preparation for holiday celebrations, Dr. Faller is offering 3 tips to make this July 4th the highlight of everyone’s summer:
- Take precaution:
Whether being careful with your BBQ or fireworks, or wearing sunscreen while enjoying a picnic, an extra dose of caution can keep friends and family safe at all times.
- Take your time:
Automotive accidents are a leading cause of holiday-time injuries. Faller says that simply slowing down the pace and living in the moment of the holiday can make a big difference.
- Take others’ advice:
Listen to friends and family when they encourage you to be safe. Don’t let the excitement of the holidays override good sense – whether it comes to alcohol, fireworks, operating an automobile or taking in some sun.
