Did you know?
More states are beginning to waive fees for "never events," such as operating on the wrong body part, transfusing the wrong blood type or leaving medical instruments inside the patient. Twenty-three states have now adopted the no-pay policy per certain preventable errors. Just last year, the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality estimated that preventable errors cost insurers approximately $1.5 billion per year. Hospitals in the no-pay states hope the rule will instill more confidence in their patients that the hospital is doing all they can to prevent these errors from occurring. |
